How to Set Goals That Actually Match Your Purpose
Many people reach the top of a ladder only to find it was leaning on the wrong wall. Success without purpose feels empty, no matter how impressive it looks.
Start with the why
Before setting a goal, ask three questions. What am I here to do? Who am I meant to serve? What would I be proud of ten years from now? Goals without a “why” fall apart at the first obstacle.
Signs your goals are not really yours
- You chase things mainly to impress others
- You feel relief, not joy, when you achieve them
- You cannot explain how they serve anyone but you
- You keep changing direction with every trend
A simple framework
- Define your purpose in one clear sentence.
- Pick one big goal for the next 12 months that supports it.
- Break it into quarters, then into weekly actions.
- Write it down and review it every Sunday.
- Pray and plan. “Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established” (Proverbs 16:3).
Measure what matters
Money, status and titles are tools, not the goal. Ask whether your work is helping people, honoring God and building the life you want.
Final thought
A higher standard of success is not about doing more. It is about doing what matters, consistently, with purpose.
